Abstract

Soil erosion is one of the key environmental problems in Uzbekistan, second only to salinization. The country has a semi-arid climate and is characterized by low precipitation, which in turn contributes to soil degradation and erosion processes. Approximately 800,000 hectares of rainfed land and about 15% of all agricultural land in the country has been subjected to soil erosion to some extent. In addition to this, unsustainable agricultural practices such as overgrazing and inefficient irrigation methods further aggravate the problem.
