SOILS AS A KEY TO CLIMATE RESILIENCE: INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND A ROADMAP FOR DEVELOPING UZBEKISTAN’S CARBON INFRASTRUCTURE

Abstract

Soil is a key manageable carbon reservoir and the foundation of climateresilient agriculture, especially in arid regions. This article synthesizes international and Russian experience with carbon monitoring sites and soil-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies (biochar, cover crops, conservation agriculture). Using Uzbekistan as a case study. The article analyzes climate risks and soil degradation, and proposes a step-by-step roadmap for developing a national carbon(C) infrastructure, including a network of monitoring sites, a measurement reporting and verification (MRV) system, and mechanisms for certifying C credits for the country’s agricultural landscapes
